Talks are still in progress between the government and the University on the funding model to be followed, Education Minister Dolores Cristina said in parliament.

She was replying to a question by Owen Bonnici (PL) who noted that in February last year he had asked whether the students’ stipends system was to be retained or changed. He also asked, if the latter was the case, what changes would be made.

The minister had replied that the manner how the University received its funds was to be revised during the year (2011). She said there could be a revision of the way how the stipends would reach the students, but there would be no reduction in the stipends.

In her reply today, the minister said the talks with the University on the best model to follow were still underway and further information would be given once the discussions were finalised.
