In a few weeks' time the cyclists would be on their Betfair Lifecycle Challenge. The adrenaline is picking up and all the group members are eager to start and finish off this challenge. The pressure is picking up also. Logistics are constantly updated but as usual one finds the unexpected.

Outside Mater Dei Hospital is a hype of activity. Nigel turned up with a shaved head, others with 60km already covered having started to cycle as early as 3.00am so as to avoid the afternoon heat.

Most cyclists are doing their stretching exercises - some with the help of the physiotherapists too. In the meantime the backup team discusses logistics. The cyclists' feel good factor was great and got even better when Alan spelt out the route.

After the previous Sunday's tough ride, Alan kept this route simple to the cyclists' relief. During the briefing, he stressed the need of proper nutrition and preparation before and after each ride. At 7.30 a.m., the cyclists left for "The Valletta Circuit" taking the B'kara Bypass, Regional road down to Msida, Pieta Seafront, Floriana, down Great Siege Road, round the Valletta Bastions, Pieta Seafront to Msida and looping back for five times after which we all met at the Msida Bocci Club for coffee and snacks.

Accompanying the cyclists were past Lifecycle cyclists who make it a point to support Lifecycle and do the Sunday ride with this year's cycling team. At the checkpoints, the committee and backup team members discuss pending issues as we waited for the cyclists to pass.

Once at the final checkpoint, luckily - the Physiotherapists had little injuries to look into while Stephanie - the Lifecycle Doctor was busy explaining and prescribing the Malaria pills to all the group. Carolina was busy reading her SMSs while Robert was more than happy when his wife called him and told him that his favourite pasta dish was cooked and waiting for him... though it would be a few hours till he devoured it!!

After having a deserved rest and shared their morning ride experiences the cyclists were back on their bikes in groups taking different routes as a group so as to complete their 180km for the day - which meant arriving home at around 4.00pm for most of them. The team spirit is exceptional and something which professionals should vie for.

Donations can be made through landlines on 5004 9065 - €10, 5004 9060 - €20 and by SMS on 5061 8920 - €6.99, 5061 9229 - €11.65. Lifecycle Organisation thanks you in advance for your generosity.
