The worker who died on Thursday morning following a collision at the Freeport two weeks ago has been named as Raymond Mifsud.

Tributes have been paid to the "kind-hearted" 58-year-old from Marsascala who was critically injured in the collision between two container transporters on October 20.

On the day of the accident, the Freeport said he was working on a container ship when the accident happened. He died in hospital.

The other transporter was being driven by a 30-year-old man from Rabat.

Friends of the victim paid tribute to him on Facebook.

“Rest in peace my friend and ex-colleague, thank you for all the advice you gave me, till we meet again,” Jonathan Briffa said.

“You were such a kind-hearted man, you will be missed, but your memories will be cherished forever,” Sandra Portelli wrote.

The Malta Freeport Terminals also offered its heartfelt condolences to Mifsud's family, friends and colleagues.

In a statement it said the part-time port worker had received immediate first aid from the on-duty Freeport nurse before the emergency services arrived to transfer him to hospital.

The Freeport is conducting an investigation into the incident.

A magisterial inquiry and police investigation are under way.
