‘I want to serve you all’ – Robert Abela tells Labour non-voters

Prime Minister gives prominence to Gozo Floriana Granaries mass meeting

Robert Abela has said that he wants to serve everyone over the next five years – including those who did not vote for the Labour Party in the general election.

Speaking at a hastily convened victory mass meeting at the Floriana Granaries on Sunday evening, Abela thanked voters for entrusting him with another five years as prime minister.

He said the campaign was respectful and focused on ideas.

“But it is clear that people chose the Labour Party’s vision,” he added.

Abela gave particular prominence to Gozo. He pointed out that three Labour MPs were elected into parliament on that district.

“Earlier they said that Gozo turned blue,” he said, referring to the PN. “In reality, Gozo is white and red.”

Throughout his speech, Abela also made a point to mention “Gozitans and Maltese”, in that order.

Abela said the next five years will centre around implementing the Labour Party’s manifesto in full.

“Malta has become a successful country, and with this manifesto, we will continue to build on that success. Thank you for believing in me, in my team, and in the Labour Party.”

He also listed the party’s previous leaders, from Paul Boffa to Joseph Muscat, adding he is keeping their legacy alive through his own leadership.

Abela directed a message towards those who did not vote for the Labour Party, saying he wants to serve everyone, including those who did not vote for him.

“I want to serve you all, but I also want to serve alongside you. Now help me so that I can take the country forward.”

In an earlier speech outside Labour HQ, Abela said the party’s historic electoral win was a victory for all Maltese and Gozitans.
