Alternattiva Demokratika has promised to promote the legislation of divorce and the recognition of registered partnerships, including those of the same sex, in its electoral manifesto for the European Parliament elections.
In an extraordinary general meeting to approve the manifesto over the weekend, the party said it would promote policies to strengthen the family.
Apart from the traditional family, different forms of cohabiting couples should be protected, it said.
This should be done through the recognition of registered partnerships, including formations such as those in cohabitation and separated persons, people tied by family links and same-sex partners.
The party said it would also promote the harmonisation of the EU's family policies in areas such as childcare, parental leave and work-life balance to help bring about stronger families.
On immigration, the party said the country should give due importance to the humanitarian realities of immigrants, while having a clear integration policy that matched their rights with responsibilities, in respect of the law.
It promised to strengthen environmental legislation and, without going into specifics, said it would promote policies to counter the negative effects of the current economic crisis, insecure job contracts and exploitation, and work towards increased female participation in employment.
It would also back current European Commission initiatives to remove double registration tax on motor vehicles.
