It was no surprise that the main story on your front page last Sunday was a call for an investigation by Malta into what led to the Lockerbie tragedy.
I sincerely hope that Foreign Minister Tonio Borg and the government do respond to the request by UN monitor Hans Kochler to defend our nation's good name and thus remove this slur that has tarnished our country's reputation for so many years.
With ever growing doubts worldwide as to the way the original investigation and subsequent trial was conducted, this would be an opportunity for the government to show a way forward; for our government to show real transparency in this very flimsy evidence.
The fact that so many irregularities regarding the way the Malta part was dealt with and the methods adopted in respect of the so-called 'key witness' Tony Gauci is but one example of the odd conduct of the investigation.
And what about the allegations regarding an alleged pay-off to both Gauci brothers? On the same day as Caroline Muscat's report appeared, Sky News revealed that in addition to the millions of dollars offered, an upfront sum of $10,000 was paid.
