The Church is celebrating its biggest feast today with several towns and villages holding the traditional Easter procession with the statue of the Risen Christ.
Thousands of locals and tourists watched the outdoor events this morning as they applauded loudly adding charm to the harmony of bells ringing out for Easter.
In Senglea able-bodied men raced through the steep narrow streets holding the statue up high.
Half-way through the procession, children brought out their Easter eggs and figolli which were blessed by the city’s archpriest.
Senglea, started recelebrating the feast of the Risen Christ in 1969.
The lower part of the statue is made of wood, the upper part of papier mache. This is for it to be able to withstand the jerks when the bearers run with it while being light enough to be carried around without difficulty.
