The Sliema Residents Association has expressed 'apprehension' about forthcoming carcades in Sliema and surrounding localities following World Cup games.
In a statement, the SRA commended the organisation of the World Cup Village at Manoel Island but said it believed residents had a right to the enjoyment of peace and quiet in their own homes and a safe environment their neighbourhood.
It called on the Commissioner of Police and the relevant authorities to take the necessary actions to stop and control illegal misuse of car horns which caused significant nuisance to residents and an increased hazard on roads.
“As a mature, developed country it is expected that the police and relevant authorities will pronounce themselves publicly regarding this matter and take the necessary measures to kerb such unruly behaviour to ensure that residents will not be subjected to such uncivil behaviour,” it said.
