The Armed Forces of Malta have denied reports on Rai and some international news agencies that two Libyan warships have arrived in Malta carrying defectors.

Rai said this morning that the two vessels had berthed in Malta.

The AFM yesterday afternoon also denied it was monitoring any Libyan vessel within Maltese waters.

Informed sources said however that there was Italian naval and military activity some 25 miles south of Malta.
