A fire broke out at the site of the former Bamboo nightclub in Paceville on Saturday morning, prompting an emergency firefighting operation.

A Civil Protection Department spokesperson confirmed the incident at the site on Triq Dragonara, which forced the evacuation of a hotel above the building as a precaution.

Firefighters extinguished the flames before they spread. No injuries were reported.

The fire sent massive plumes of smoke into the sky. Smoke was visible from neighbouring Sliema and Baħar iċ-Cagħaq.

The hotel guests were allowed to return to their rooms by 10am.

Police are investigating.
