The recent report in The Times regarding vandalism in a private residence specifically targeting gay people is shocking, to say the least. The intolerance and hatred of some people is worrying.

We urge the authorities to treat this not as a simple act of vandalism but also a hate crime intended to cause fear on the victim, which it did.

The victim's allegations that the police officer he contacted took no action should also be seriously investigated and sanctioned accordingly.

It is unacceptable that a person whose role is to protect considers such acts as a non-issue.
