Malta has experienced the second hottest February day, with the temperature reaching a maximum of 24.1oC.

The Met Office at Malta International Airport said the highest temperature ever registered at Luqa Airport in February was on February 18th, 1960 when the mercury reached 26.7 degrees..

Today's weather conditions was brought about by a short-lived thermal ridge over the central Mediterranean, coupled with cloudless skies and southerly winds.

It is expected that similar but somewhat cloudy conditions will persist until tomorrow. On Saturday, the winds are expected to become strong from the northwest later in the day, with an forecast maximum temperature of 16oC.

Malta also experienced unusually warm days during the New Year period.
