Thirteen editorial staff working with Allied Newspapers yesterday received a diploma in journalism that is accredited by the UK’s Press Association.
The Allied Newspapers Diploma, a practical qualification recognised by the global newspaper industry, was developed in 2008 and sets the standard by which achievement in journalism can be measured.
It is based on the Press Association’s award-winning scheme and provides senior journalists with the skills needed to consolidate a successful career in journalism.
The certificates were presented by Press Association consulting editor Peter Sands, Allied Newspapers managing director Vincent Buhagiar and Allied Newspaper executive director Adrian Hillman.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Sands, a judge on the UK Regional Press Awards, said external examiners who reviewed portfolios submitted by the graduates as part of the coursework had praised the high standard of the work.
Mr Buhagiar and Mr Hillman thanked the Press Association for the professionalism with which it delivered the course. Mr Buhagiar said the company would continue working with the Press Association as its input had been very useful.
The graduates are: Juan Ameen, Cynthia Busuttil, Claudia Calleja, Valhmor Camilleri, Fiona Galea Debono, Christian Peregin, Ariadne Massa, Mark Micallef, Caroline Muscat, Joanna Ripard, Veronica Stivala, Matthew Xuereb and Rosanne Zammit.
