Hungarian Nemeth Arpad, 37, this afternoon pleaded not guilty to importing cocaine.

The man, who lives in Spain, arrived in Malta on a direct flight from Madrid on Tuesday. He was held by the police on suspicion that he was carrying drugs in his stomach.

He was taken to Mater Dei where a medical examination established he was carrying 57 drug capsules containing a total 600 grams of cocaine.

The police said the find was made by the Drug Squad following investigations between the Squad and the Customs Department.

An inquiry is being held. The man had visited Malta previously.

He was prosecuted by Police Inspector Herman Mula.
