Several areas of Malta - from Sliema to Zabbar - were briefly without power this afternoon after a fault developed in Boiler Seven at the Marsa power station, causing it to 'trip'.

Engineers resorted to power shedding and switched on more plant at Delimara power station.

The outage started at 2.40 p.m. and power was restored to all areas in less than 45 minutes.

The areas included Sta Venera, Birirkara, Balzan, Attard, Lija, San Gwann, St Julians, Sliema, Paceville, Gzira, Marsascala, Zejtun, Ghaxaq and Zabbar.
