Protesters hurled Molotov cocktails and rocks at police as fury over the Euro zone crisis spilled onto the streets of Italy, Portugal and Spain yesterday.
In Rome, protesters hurled rocks at police who responded with tear gas. In Portugal, Molotov cocktails and clashes outside of parliament... and in Madrid, thousands turned out to voice their anger over spending cuts they say are making Europe's economic crisis worse.
The demonstrations --- held simultaneously throughout the continent--- were part of what was being called a called a "European Day of Action and Solidarity."
At least one hundred people were arrested across several countries, and clashes prompted road closings and disrupted air, rail, and ground travel.
What impact the strikes will have is unclear --- many who participated say they have few options in the face of already high unemployment and plans for further austerity cuts.
