Times Talk: What's it like being in the courtroom of the Yorgen Fenech trial?
Times of Malta court reporter Clara Farrugia says everybody is laser-focused as one of the most consequential criminal trials in history unfolds
The long-awaited trial of businessman Yorgen Fenech began on Wednesday in a packed courtroom in Valletta known as Hall 22, where everyone has been laser-focused as the prosecution begins to lay its evidence before a panel of jurors.
On Friday, two days into the trial, Times Talk sat down with Times of Malta court reporter Clara Farrugia, who is among those witnessing the historic proceedings firsthand to report on the emerging details.
This episode takes you inside the courtroom, where Farrugia says the atmosphere is not so much tense as it is focused.
"Everybody's attention is fixed on what the witnesses are saying as jurors take notes. There's so much information emerging every minute," she said.
The 30-minute episode unpacks the prosecution's opening arguments and the first part of the lead investigator's testimony. It also walks through how the jurors were selected and discusses the next phases of the trial until a verdict is reached weeks from now.
Times of Malta will bring you weekly round-ups of the trial until the jury delivers its verdict.
