The article about the very capable Callus family (The Sunday Times, December 2) must have, among other things, given some lessons about child-rearing ideas. As far as I am concerned one negative statement really surprised me; shocked me, really. Not a single male Maltese sign language interpreter.

I must admit that all I know about the situation in Malta is what I read in the article. Children should be introduced to sign language at school. Nothing elaborate, just some basics presented in a light manner.

The male interpreter dearth can, maybe, be solved by ‘introducing’ the idea to men approaching retirement; an excellent retirement project. I’m going to leave it at that but hopefully others, who are better informed and or committed, can think of and implement these and other ideas.
