Weekend breaks in Sicily are typically associated with good food and wine. But there can be much more to your short tenure in the neighbouring island.
Tenuta Carbonara, an agritourism place in Modica Bassa, is hosting a small group of people in October to try out olive picking, while enjoying the home-made produce and typical Sicilian delicacies.
The picking takes place at La Collina del Barbuto, the estates of the famous Barbuto oil and owned by Jean Paul Mifsud, who left Malta to start a farming life in Sicily.
Mifsud will be around to explain to guests whatever needs to be done and why he believes in picking olives by hand rather than mechanically.

There will also be culinary sessions, a tour of Modica Bassa and a tour of Ragusa Ibla, the oldest part of Ragusa, which forms part of the Val di Noto Unesco Heritage site.
