With cars reaching speeds of 200mph and beyond, Formula 1 racing is the ultimate motor sport. Every two weeks or so, 20 drivers – not just drivers, but veritable athletes – travel all around the world to race their multi-million euro cars around thrilling tracks. The speed is devastating, the precision millimetric, and the difference between the winner and the last driver across the finish line is a matter of seconds. Those fighting for the top positions are only a blink of an eye away from each other. It’s all about speed.

And to capture this thrilling, fast spectacle are hundreds of photographers, at the side of the track, zooming in on the flashing cars, trying to anticipate a movement and capture a moment.
Formula 1 photographers have to be as fast as the racing drivers themselves. Not only that, but they have to capture the essence of the track – from legendary Monza to loud-and-proud Miami and historic Silverstone.

Professional camera operator and content producer Calvin Jurkovic has photographed over 10 Formula 1 races last year, and has just landed a freelance gig with Formula 1 team Alpine – he will join them for the races in Belgium and potentially Japan, Singapore, Qatar and Mexico and has already been booked for the Las Vegas grand prix.
His portfolio is a beautiful ode to this magnificent sport. Jurkovic’s photos of last year’s race in Singapore captures the architectural beauty of the Marina Bay Circuit, that highlights the night beauty of the Fullerton Hotel, the Anderson Bridge and the striking Singapore Flyer.

Monza is known as the Temple of Speed and Jurkovic’s photos are a visual explanation of why this track – together with its highlights, such as the Curva Grande, the Curva di Lesmo and the Variante Ascari – has legendary status. Jurkovic – also thanks to his access to pit lanes and VIP areas – frames the passion of the Ferrari tifosi perfectly – and repeats his visual stunts at Monaco, the most famous race in the world, with his shots of the rich and famous on board their superyachts, the racing action, and one very special guest, Conor McGregor.
In his professional journey, Jurkovic’s eye and talent have earned him various gigs with international clients including Ferrari, Formula 1, Patron, Paddock Club, Aston Martin, Paramount Pictures, and his latest, a gig with the Alpine team. Beyond the world of Formula 1, he has also worked at Defhouse, the influencer central, where for two years, he lived with the most famous influencers in the world in a house which Forbes listed as one of the top 50 custom built houses in the world. During this time he has also produced work for Tommy Hilfiger, Tods, Netflix, Adidas, Calvin Klein, Dolce Gabbana and more.

The most surprising thing about Jurkovic is that he only picked up a camera in 2019 – and did so without having any experience in media. But in less than four years, he has managed to establish himself as one of the best camera operators and content producers on the Formula 1 circuit and beyond.

So if he has managed this in less than four years, just imagine what’s in store in the coming months.
