The pairing of artists with an NGO campaigning for the protection of the environment and heritage is a fitting marriage of mutual interests. After all, Malta's landscapes and unique architecture inspire the work of many local artists and therefore, its protection and preservation is a concern to them.
In showcasing these artworks, Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA) is seeking to highlight the beauty of Malta's rich urban and rural heritage. At the same time the funds collected will be re-invested in the protection of Malta's prime sites. The proceeds from this year's exhibition will set in motion a heritage fund.
FAA's annual art exhibition also serves to promote Malta's artistic heritage by supporting established artists while promoting promising new talent. This year's collection features desirable and favourably priced works by 32 of the islands' artists, including C.S. Lawrence, Winston Hassall, Isabelle Borg, Debbie Caruana Dingli, Madeleine Gera and Julie Apap.
Some artists are approaching or have already reached the high rungs of the ladder, while other exciting new names are worth watching while relatively unknown.
FAA insists that the works must be affordable, while a section of less expensive mounted originals and signed prints ensures that good art is accessible to the widest public.
Flimkien is now in its third year of organising collective art exhibitions and each year the event picks up greater momentum, this year gaining the support of the .
Once again, the Casino Maltese in Valletta will be hosting the exhibition which is open to the public until December 16 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
