Archbishop Charles Scicluna will be leaving Malta for Rome today to join Pope Francis and other new archbishops in the concelebration of Mass on Monday on the Feast of St Peter and St Paul.
During the visit, he will also receive the pallium, an ecclesiastical vestment, from the Pope privately after Mass.
Up till last year, archbishops used to receive the pallium at a formal ceremony in Rome.
But Pope Frances decided newly appointed archbishops should be formally vested in their own archdiocese by the Apostolic Nuncio to encourage participation of the local church.
Details about the ceremony in Malta will announced later.
