A new statue of the founder of the MUSEUM Christian doctrine society, Blessed Dun Gorg Preca, by Alfred Camilleri Cauchi is being exhibited for the first time at Fleur-de-Lys on the occasion of the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, being celebrated there at the weekend.

The feast committee decided to commission the statue to be placed in front of the parish church.

Several proposals were made, including that for a statue of St Simon Stock receiving the blessed scapular from Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

The feast committee said the factors that led to the decision to make the statue of Dun Gorg Preca were that he was a member of the third order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the fact that he used to pray in the Fleur-de-Lys church.

Many people who lived at that time in Fleur-de-Lys remember him coming to the church.

The statue was donated to the committee by Tony Sciberras de Giovanni.
