Between 2005 and 2011 a total of 6,505 babies were registered as having been born to single mothers in Malta and Gozo, Health Minister Joseph Cassar told Parliament in reply to a question by Nationalist MP Jean Pierre Farrugia.

The biggest number in any year in that period was in 2011, when a thousand babies were born in Malta and 44 in Gozo. The lesser number was 737 in 2005, with 707 in Malta and 30 in Gozo.
