On Monday evening Heritage Malta's head office will remain open till late giving the opportunity to all art lovers to view the exhibition of Mary Clare Albanozzo which closes the following day. For those who have not yet had the opportunity to visit this exhibition entitled A Cross-Section of My Art Life, this is the ideal chance to enjoy these works together with some light refreshments in the company of the artist herself.
Clare, as she is known to all her friends, has been into art for most of her life making this exhibition the culmination of her love for the paintbrush as its title suggests. Clare's favourite medium is watercolours and she is very much inspired by the sea. This we can tell from her various seascapes including works such as Comino Just Before Sunrise, Red Skies in the Morning - Birgu, Mgarr Gozo, Gozo Mgarr Promenade, Rainbow over Qala and Close Hauled - just a few of this vast array of 65 works of arts.
The artist studied art at the Malta School of Art and trained under Alfred Portelli, Tony Sciberras and Emmanuel Fiorentino. She has attended outdoor sessions with John Martin Borg who is her mentor and influence to a certain extent. This we can see from her passion for watercolours. The watercolour paintings make up most of this collection, however, Clare has experimented with other mediums such as pen and ink and charcoal. She also uses oils in her painting Orange Tulips.
Although the subject seems to preside in seascapes and landscapes - village life, churches, fishing boats and the lot - Clare's love for nature and gardening has led her to depict some colourful pieces of which themes are flowers, butterflies and other inspirations the outdoors might offer. Clare has also worked on illuminated manuscripts and some of these works which were originally done as part of the course work for her Diploma in Fine Art are being displayed in the exhibition.
Clare is an active member of the Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce with Matthew Kassar as her tutor, and of the Society of Pastel Artists. She has taken part in a number of exhibitions in the past but this is her first solo exhibition.
Besides an interesting experience for people who are both familiar and not so familiar with Clare's art, it's important to note that part of the proceeds from the exhibition will go to Dar Tal-Providenza and Caritas Drug Programme.
