European funds have been secured and allocated for the Kappara Junction project, the Parliamentary Secretariat EU Funds said.
The project is aimed to address the traffic congestion in the area. The road is in fact one of the most traffic congested roads under the TEN-T network in Malta - with traffic volume amounting to 90,000 vehicles a day.
“The existing junction is no longer suitable to accommodate all this volume and for this purpose, an investment in road infrastructure is considered an important factor.
“This will also improve accessibility, safety, connectivity and sustainability”, Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg said. He also said that this project will ensure early absorption of EU Funds, contrary to what used to be the norm in the past.
Dr Borg said that the project value of the Kappara Junction is €35,075,396, of which €33,347,855 are derived from Cohesion Funds.
