Triq San Pawl in Xemxija has been closed to traffic after it was deemed unsafe following structural damage to its foundations, the police said.

It seems that the damage is due to construction work currently being carried out on the site of the former popular wine bar Il-Veccja, which was demolished after it was condemned.

The building had to be rebuilt within a year.

Transport Malta said that in view of the closure, Arriva is running a shuttle service between Triq San Pawl (Mecca Enterprises) and the Burmarrad Church and vice versa.

The shuttle service will cater for public transport patrons waiting along parts of Triq San Pawl and Triq Parades.

Patrons will be dropped off at the bus stops located along Triq Burmarrad (on either side).

Patrons travelling North (Xemxija, Mellieha, Ghadira and Cirkewwa) from St Paul's Bay are to get the shuttle service to Burmarrad and then get the usual routes.

Patrons are to present their standard Arriva tickets. Tickets may be purchased during the shuttle service.

The shuttle service will run until further notice.
