The Maltese flag was hoisted in Australia's Gold Coast on Tuesday as the country's entourage of athletes officially began participating in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Athletes were formally greeted during a ceremony at the athletes' village.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat met with the 24-strong contingent of athletes prior to the ceremony, visiting their training facilities and wishing them well.
"I am convinced that you will make Malta proud," he told the athletes.
Malta will be represented in athletics events, gymnastics, lawn bowls, squash, shooting, wrestling and weightlifting.
71 nations are taking part in this edition of the Commonwealth Games, which begin on Wednesday April 4 and will end on Sunday April 15.
Malta first participated in the Games back in 1958.
