A motorcyclist died on Monday evening after he appeared to have lost control of his Honda VT750 and slammed into crash barriers on the Coast Road, the police have confirmed. 

The man, 51 from Msida, was certified dead on the spot. 

The police said the accident happened at around 6.15pm. 

Sources said the man's motorcycle careered further down the road and came to a standstill quite a distance from where his body was found.

Duty magistrate Nadine Lia was informed about the case. She appointed several court experts to assist with her inquiry.

District police are investigating. 

This is the second road fatality in four days following the death of 19-year-old postwoman Elaine Briffa on Thursday following an accident in Triq Ħal Qormi  when the Maltapost Paxter she was driving overturned at around 8am.
