Mraz poised for Sliema return

Czech midfielder Pavel Mraz is poised for a return to Sliema Wanderers. Sources close to the club told The Sunday Times that the Blues are close to agreeing a short-term deal with their former player in view of their commitments in the Lowenbrau Cup and the UEFA Cup.

Mraz is believed to be keen on a move to a Premier League club after his contract with Valletta was ended abruptly last December. The versatile 33-year-old player turned out for Gozo champions Nadur Youngsters in the second part of last season and has recently been linked with a move to Division One side Balzan Youths.

However, Sliema, now under the guidance of former Valletta coach Edward Aquilina, have had talks with Mraz, regarded as a good replacement for Malta international left-back Carlo Mamo, currently serving a six-month suspension for doping.

The Wanderers' intense foray into the transfer market has already landed them the services of international midfielder Joe Brincat, formerly of Birkirkara. Floriana striker Edoardo Do Nascimento, better known as Bizu, is also a target of the Blues, who are searching a replacement for Orosco Anonam after the latter moved to Cyprus champions Apoel Nicosia. Valletta's defensive duo of Darren Debono and Jeffrey Chetcuti are also courting interest from the Wanderers.
