A group of 52 police constables were this morning appointed sergeants during a ceremony at the police headquarters in Floriana.

In a brief address, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela noted that during this legislature the police force had been beefed up especially at district level. 

Mr Abela also noting that one-fifth of the police force were female officers, whereas all Civil Protection officers were men.
