British martyrs called George

After the canonisation of Fr George Preca, I wish to point out that there have been eight British martyrs named George who have been beatified. Blessed George Haydock, a diocesan priest, was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn in 1584, at the age of 27.

After the canonisation of Fr George Preca, I wish to point out that there have been eight British martyrs named George who have been beatified.

Blessed George Haydock, a diocesan priest, was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn in 1584, at the age of 27. Blessed George Douglas, another diocesan priest, was also hanged, drawn and quartered at York in 1587. Blessed George Nichols, another diocesan priest, was hanged, drawn and quartered at Oxford in 1589 at the age of 39.

Blessed George Beesley, also a diocesan priest, was hanged, drawn and quartered in Fleet Street, London, aged 28 in 1591. Blessed George Swallowell, a former Protestant minister, was hanged, drawn and quartered at Darlington in 1594. Blessed George Errington, a layman, executed at York in 1596, aged 42.

Blessed George Gervase, a Benedictine monk, was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn in 1608. Blessed George Napper, a diocesan priest, was hanged, drawn and quartered at Oxford in 1610.
