A pick-up truck was destroyed in a fierce blaze in East Street, Valletta, in the early hours of Tuesday.

The fire, at 4am, spread quickly across the Ford Ranger. The vehicle's tyres exploded with the heat, setting off burglar alarms.

A store facade and the windscreen of a nearby parked car were damaged.

No one was injured, police said.
