Really I do think it is about time that no more newsprint is wasted on those unfortunate Maltese nationals who were deported to Uganda and had to sit out the war in Malta instead of alongside their battered and hungry compatriots facing death during the 1940-43 Siege of Malta.

The Editor has very kindly published pages and pages of letters in favour and against an apology from the Queen.

We have even had a photo printed of a (mostly) smiling group of our deported countrymen. I feel that now after almost 66 years we should let this sorry story pass into history. But one thing I will say: "If the UK does apologise I will demand an apology from the Italian government for almost blowing my brains out when an Italian mine exploded while we were clearing mines at Tripoli's Castel Benito (as it was then called) Airport in 1942."

But I now think the Italians are great and only remember the lovely holidays I have spent in their beautiful country.
